Fix Lag in Fortnite Mobile on Android & iOS - Fix FPS Drops

iOS

Fortnite Mobile has captured the attention of millions of players worldwide, providing a thrilling battle royale experience on the go. However, nothing can ruin the fun more than lag and FPS drops, making the game frustrating to play. If you're experiencing these issues while playing Fortnite Mobile on your Android or iOS device, you're not alone. In this article, we'll take you through some simple but effective ways to fix lag and FPS drops in Fortnite Mobile, ensuring you enjoy the game to the fullest.

Optimize the Fortnite Mobile Video Settings

Open up Fortnite and navigate to your Video settings tab, which will greatly impact the performance and quality of your gameplay. I will set these for a low to mid-end device, as it will also reduce distractions generated by the game and will help you run Fortnite mobile smoothly on any mobile device you wish to use.

Fortnite Mobile > Settings

Set the Mobile Framerate option to 60 FPS. This will make sure that the game increases the framerate while in-game, which can prevent FPS drops. In the Graphics tab, the User Interface Contrast option will not impact your performance, so set this option to your personal preference.

Fortnite Mobile Settings > Video

Change your 3D Resolution option to Automatic. This will allow Fortnite mobile to adjust the 3D resolution dynamically based on your device's performance while playing.

Fortnite Video Settings > Graphics

We suggest enabling the Show FPS option to troubleshoot performance issues and why you get FPS drops while playing Fortnite mobile. Enable the Allow Low Power Mode option when playing on a low battery. This lowers your settings to preserve your battery but will reduce the game's visual quality.

Fortnite Mobile > Settings > Show FPS

Close Background Apps

Prevent other applications from running in the background. Especially resource-intensive applications or apps that use up your network connection can impact your Fortnite mobile gaming experience.

Device Software Update

Next, open up your native settings application. On your iOS device, scroll down and tap on General. First, make sure that your iOS device is up to date. Select Software Update, and download and install the latest update in case one is available.

iPhone Settings > General > Software Update

Ensure Enough Storage Space for Fortnite

In your iPhone or iPad storage settings, you can preview how much storage you have left and how much each application uses up on your device. You will need enough storage on your device to increase your overall Fortnite mobile performance and reduce FPS drops. Games like Fortnite generate and delete files in the background when the game is being used. If you don’t have enough storage, writing and deleting data can be slow and induce lag. We suggest ensuring you have at least 2GB of free storage left.

iPhone Settings > General > iPhone Storage

Disable Background App Refresh

Back in your general settings, tab on Background App Refresh. You should turn this setting off while in-game to prevent your device from updating other applications while in-game. The battery-saver mode can also reduce your performance and induce FPS drops, so ensure your device is charged and the battery-saver mode is disabled while playing Fortnite.

iPhone Settings > General > Background App Refresh

Restart Device

Restart your mobile device in case you haven’t done this in a while. This will restart some services and processes and will increase your performance when playing Fortnite mobile.
