Are you tired of experiencing audio issues while playing Rust, particularly with your microphone? Fear not, as we have the solutions to fix your mic issues and enhance your audio quality in Rust. Rust is an immersive and challenging survival game that requires effective communication and coordination with your teammates, making it essential to have a functional microphone and optimal audio settings.

Adjust the Rust Sound Settings

Open Rust and navigate to your Options. In the Audio tab, ensure your Master Audio is not muted, and set the Voices volume to at least 60%, as well as your Game Sounds volume. Under Speaker Config, set the Speaker Mode to the audio system you are using. For my headphones, we will use Stereo. After verifying and applying your audio settings, you can close Rust.

Window Sound Settings

Right-click the Sound icon in your taskbar and select Open Sound Settings, or search for Sound in your taskbar to get to your sound settings. On the settings window, set the output and input device to your primary device.

Under Manage Sound Devices, you can select to test or disable your devices. This is essential for troubleshooting any hardware issues. Also testing your device with another source, such as a video on YouTube will help you determine where the issue is coming from.

In your Advanced Sound Settings, you can assign the input and output devices for each application, as well as changing the volume.

Update the Microphone Driver

After tweaking your settings, you can close this window and search for Device Manager in your taskbar search and hit enter. In the window, expand Audio inputs and outputs. Here, right-click the output sound device you prefer to use, select Update Driver, and Search automatically for updated driver software. This will take a minute to ensure your device’s driver is up to date.

Verify the Rust GameFiles

If the audio issue persists, your Rust files might be corrupted. To fix this, open up your Steam launcher. In your game library, right-click Rust and select Properties. In the Local Files tab, select Verify integrity of game files. Redownloading and replacing any missing or corrupted game files will take a minute.
