Apex Legends - Engine Error Fix (Steam & Origin) - Windows 11

If you're an avid Apex Legends player, you might have encountered the dreaded "Engine Error" message while playing the game on Windows 11 via Steam or Origin. This error can be frustrating, as it can cause the game to crash or become unresponsive, interrupting your gaming experience. However, fear not, as there are several ways to fix this issue and get back to playing your favorite battle royale game without hiccups. In this article, we will guide you through some easy and effective solutions to fix the Apex Legends Engine Error on Windows 11, whether you are playing via Steam or Origin.

Delete the Apex Legends PAK File

To fix the .rpak engine error, you must delete that particular file in your Apex Legends folder. To do so, open up your Steam or Origin launcher. In this example, we will show this step using the Steam launcher. In your game library, right-click Apex Legends and select Properties. In the Local Files tab, select Browse Local Files. Your file explorer will open up, where you will have to delete the file that the game is unable to read. You should delete the r5apex.exe application.

Verify Integrity of the Apex Legends Game Files

After deleting the files, you can close your file explorer, and in your Apex Legends Properties, navigate to the General tab and click on Verify Integrity of Game Files. This will take a minute to re-download and replace the deleted game files.

Apex Legends Properties > Local Files > Verify Integrity

End Resource-Intensive Processes

If the error persists, open up your Task Manager, by searching for it in your start menu search. In the Processes tab, make sure to end all programs from running in the background, which could show an overlay while playing the game, such as Discord, Steam or your browser running in the background. You should prevent programs from running that could use up your available RAM and VRAM.

Task Manager > Processes > End Task

Update Graphics Card Driver

You should ensure that your Graphics Card Driver and operating system is up to date. We suggest using the GeForce Experience application for an NVIDIA GPU, but you can also use the AMD driver suite. In the Drivers tab, click on Download, and the application will automatically download and install the latest driver.

GeForce Experience > Drivers > Download

Windows Operating System Update

Search for Update in your start menu search to get to your Check for Updates system settings window. Click on Check for updates, and after downloading the latest OS update, restart your PC.
